Can I take FrogFuel or ProT GOLD if I have IBD (Crohn's disease)?

Yes!

Our products are made up of a proprietary nano-hydrolyzed collagen protein.  Collagen is the most substance in the skin, connective tissue, muscles, and tendons, besides water.  It's also the most important amino acid in the lining of the colon, working as the preferred source of energy for structure and healing.  This building block is essential for restoring the integrity of a battered intestinal lining.

REDUCED JOINT PAIN/INFLAMMATION AND IMPROVED FLEXIBILITY
When our body lacks collagen, we can start to experience stiffer, less flexible, more swollen joints as our tendons and ligaments move less freely. Increased collagen helps to offset this as allows us to move without pain.

A recent study has shown that collagen has been effectively used to help treat people with osteoarthritis and other joint pain issues, and significantly helped them with basic daily activities such as walking upstairs.

IMPROVED SKIN CONDITION

Collagen can contribute to a firmer, smoother, healthier skin condition. It has also been shown to reduce cellulite and stretch marks and surgical scarring.

Cellulite often appears as a result of reduced skin elasticity (which is caused by reduced collagen levels), and so a collagen supplement can help to reduce cellulite.

It also helps to reduce spots and dimples.

One study showed that women aged 35-55 experienced significantly improved skin moisture, elasticity, and less dryness and roughness from using a collagen supplement daily for 8 weeks (with little to no side effects).

STRENGTHENS HAIR, NAILS, TEETH

When someone finds that their nails often split, this can be due to a lack of collagen.

Studies have also shown that it can also help to reverse signs of hair loss and strengthen your teeth.

Combined with the benefits of your skin condition, it seems that collagen won’t only make you feel better, but it can also make you look better.

HEALS

Collagen helps to soothe and heal the damaged lining of the gut by basically forming connective tissue

Studies (such as this one https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14600124 ) have actually shown that patients with Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis have decreased levels of collagen, so clearly addressing this is one of the main benefits of collagen for people with these conditions.

HEALTH BENEFITS

As mentioned before, we are exposed to toxins all day every day. Minimizing this toxin exposure is critical for our health, but we can never completely avoid all toxins, and so we must help our body to get rid of them. This is mainly the job of the liver.

The glycine found in collagen can help to support liver health while it is constantly being exposed to the toxins, which means you detoxify more efficiently and that can only be a good thing for your health.

Quality sleep when you live with Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis is really important. Studies have shown that a lack of sleep is associated with flares in people with IBD. Collagen contains an amino acid known as Glycine that is thought to help promote more restful sleep.  Additionally, we fortify our formula with Tryptophan.  Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that serves several important purposes, like nitrogen balance in adults and growth in infants. It also creates niacin, which is essential in creating the neurotransmitter serotonin to promote healthier and better quality sleep.
